Cheap Benidorm holidays don’t always have to include sun, sea, sand, bars and clubs. The interior of Spain, behind the strips of hotels and crowded beaches, is simply stunning. There’s a surge in interest in the area at the moment as eco-tourists, cyclists, walkers, birdwatchers and nature lovers take to the countryside for peaceful, relaxing country breaks. Ideal for sampling the real Spain. Or head for Terra Mitica at the opposite end of the scale, a huge attraction park with scary rollercoasters and huge waterslides!

Benidorm Holidays – have fun in Aqualandia and Mundomar

Holidays in Benidorm are excellent for kids and young teens. There’s Aqualandia for a start, a must for water park fans and Europe’s biggest. Mundomar is next door, a vast marine theme park full of fascinating and strange sea creatures. Everyone loves the dolphin show! Or if you’re into history, explore the ancient church of San Jaime, with spectacular coastal views. Playa Levante is to your North, a long golden crescent of sand. Playa Poniente is to the south, with the same fabulous golden sands but not as many hotels. Take you and yours to Benidorm and have the holiday of a lifetime!

Buzzing Benidorm on Spain’s Costa Blanca coast is a long-time favourite with Brits who like plenty of sun, sea and nightlife. In addition to golden beaches, there are loads of bars, restaurants, clubs, family attractions and theme parks.

The resort is just 45 miles north of Alicante. With accommodation prices to suit all budgets, Benidorm is ideal for couples, families as well as groups.

Getting there/around Benidorm

There are plenty of UK flights to Alicante, the nearest airport to Benidorm. From Alicante, you can take a taxi from the airport which costs around £11. Transfers can also be pre-booked on the internet. There is a frequent direct bus that leaves from bus stop 30 near the airport.

Once you are in Benidorm, it’s easy enought to explore on foot. If you want to get out of town and explore, the best way is to hire a car. There’s also a FGV train that you can take to Alicante for a day out.

Beaches around Benidorm

Benidorm is famous for its fantastic beaches, white sand and lovely warm seas. There are at least five kilometres of beachfront here. The busy Playa de Poniente Beach is next to a busy road in the centre of Benidorm, so if you fancy somewhere quieter then head for the Levante Beach.

There are plenty of seafront cafes, many of which sell English fare, and there’s even a beach library with newspapers and books. For something different , take a boat to the Isla de Benidorm, an island just two miles off the coast, for an excursion.

Sightseeing in Benidorm

There’s not much left of the Old Town Benidorm although it is worth a little wander for its shops and boutiques. For cultural sightseeing, you might want to head to Alicante where you can walk the palm tree-lined boulevards, check out the castle and hit the beach for the day or take a trip along the coast.

One treat for the whole family right in Benidorm is the fun water park, Aqualandia. It boasts themed areas, waterfalls, slides and chutes. Cafes and restaurants also dot the park, which is easily accessible from the resort.

Family attractions in Benidorm

Benidorm is a hit for families and there’s loads to keep them happy. Not only are there wonderful sandy beaches but the resort is well stocked with theme parks. Head to Mundomar Marine Park where you can see dolphins, penguins, sea lions as well as an assortment of other animals. Glass-bottomed boat trips can also be arranged.

Alternatively families love Terra Mitica, a theme park with a Mediterranean theme which claims to have the longest wooden roller coaster in Europe as well as other thrill rides for all the family.

Day trips from Benidorm

Spend a day away from Benidorm in Calpe, north along the A7 road, and appreciate its gorgeous coastline, and renowned seafood restaurants. It is dominated by the Med’s largest rock, which pierces the sky at 322 metres high, creating a dramatic skyline. Holidaymakers can swim, surf or visit a nearby fishing harbour.
